Overview
Records are the heartbeat of Shams AI. Every chart, average, and trend is built from the records you (or your teacher) log. This guide covers the three core record types and how to fill them in correctly.
The three record types
| Type | What it tracks | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Memorization | New material learned that day. | "Today I memorized 1 page from Surah Al-Baqarah." |
| Revision | Previously memorized material reviewed. | "Today I revised Juz 30 from start to end." |
| Attached | Recently memorized material reviewed alongside new memorization (also called Sabaqi). | "I revised the last 2 weeks of memorization to keep it fresh." |
Adding a memorization record
Open the records tab
Go to Records → + Add Record and pick Memorization.
Pick the date
Defaults to today. You can backdate if needed (your teacher may restrict how far back).
Specify what you memorized
Choose:
- Juz (1–30)
- Surah (auto-filtered to that Juz)
- Starting ayah and ending ayah
Mistakes & notes
Optionally log:
- Total mistakes (any miscue)
- Stuck mistakes (places you got blocked)
- Notes for context
Save
The record is saved instantly and reflected in your dashboard and analytics.
Adding a revision record
Same flow as memorization, but pick Revision. You can record either a single ayah range or an entire Juz/Surah.
Adding an attached (Sabaqi) record
Pick Attached when reviewing recently memorized material to keep it fresh.
- Use this daily if your teacher emphasizes Sabaqi.
- Recording attached separately from revision keeps the analytics meaningful (it shows how well you keep new material from slipping).
Recording multiple entries in one session
It's common to memorize and revise on the same day. Add each as a separate record so analytics keep them apart. There's no limit to how many records you can add per day.
Editing or deleting a record
Recently added records can be edited or deleted from the records list. Click the row to expand it, then choose Edit or Delete.
- Some organizations may restrict editing past a certain age (e.g. only the same day).
- Deleting a record is permanent. There is no automatic recovery — only an admin can typically restore it.
Best practices
- Log on the day it happens. Backdating is fine occasionally but loses fidelity at scale.
- Be honest about mistakes. The platform's value comes from accurate data — analytics flag patterns you'd miss otherwise.
- Use notes for context. Write what you noticed (fatigue, distraction, focus area). Future you will thank you.
Troubleshooting
I can't find a Surah in the dropdown
The Surah list is filtered to whichever Juz you selected. If your range crosses two Juz, log it as two separate records.
My teacher uses custom lessons
If your teacher has set up custom lessons, you'll see additional record types beyond Memorization / Revision / Attached. The flow is the same — pick the lesson type and fill in its fields.
I can't edit an old record
Your organization may restrict editing past a certain age. Ask your teacher or admin to update it for you.
