Overview
Custom lessons let you go beyond Memorization, Revision, and Attached. Design your own lesson types — Tajwīd evaluations, fluency tests, vocabulary drills — with whatever fields you need.
When to use a custom lesson
- You evaluate a skill that doesn't fit the standard types (e.g., articulation, makharij).
- You want to track a structured curriculum unit.
- You want a recurring quiz or assessment with consistent fields.
Designing a custom lesson
Open "Custom Lessons → New lesson"
Name and describe
Give it a clear name (e.g., "Tajwīd evaluation") and a short description so other teachers in your organization understand the intent.
Add fields
Common field types:
- Number — for counts, scores, or durations.
- Text — short notes (e.g. surah name).
- Long text — paragraphs of feedback.
- Dropdown — pick from a fixed list (e.g., grade A/B/C/D).
- Checkbox — pass/fail or yes/no.
- Date — schedule fields.
Mark fields as required when you really need them.
Decide visibility
Who can use this lesson type?
- Just me — only you, the creator.
- My class(es) — teachers of those classes.
- Whole organization — every teacher.
Save
The lesson type appears as a new option when recording.
Recording a custom lesson session
Once a custom lesson is published, it shows up alongside Memorization / Revision / Attached when you record. The flow is identical — pick the lesson, fill in fields, save.
Analyzing custom lesson data
Numeric fields you create are automatically charted on the analysis page (per-student and per-class). Non-numeric fields (text, notes) appear in the record list but aren't charted.
Editing or archiving a lesson type
- Edit — you can rename or add new optional fields. Removing a field that already has data is blocked to protect history.
- Archive — hides it from new record dropdowns without deleting any historical data.
